Volunteer Experience: Halimah

Hi, I’m Halimah, and this is my second time doing volunteer at the Little Fireface Project. Previously I just wanted to visit for 2 weeks to discuss about my research in here, but in fact for several reasons, this visit made me stay for 3 months! Observing animals has always been my dream and I’m grateful to be able to achieve it with LFP.

When you do observations on the Javan slow loris, maybe some of you will experience some changes in your daily routine. Because this observation will be done at night, while in the afternoon you need to rest or do other activities that you want. But never mind, you just have to set time to rest and do activities during the day! Observation of Javan slow loris will give you very interesting experiences, their funny and adorable behaviour makes you unable to look away. Like the time I saw Javan slow lorises interacting socially with other slow lorises by playing, grooming, following each other and much more that you can watch. Not infrequently also Javan slow loris hiding in thick bamboo or tree canopies, so it is rather difficult to see what he is doing.

In addition to observing Javan slow lorises, I also do activities with children who live around the Little Fireface Project base camp. Activities undertaken with these children are learning and playing about nature in their environment. My hope by teaching nature knowledge since childhood can increase their concern about the environment and the animals that live around them.

Not only that, the location of this Javan slow loris study also provides a beautiful view that will make you feel at home to stay longer there. from the front yard alone you will see the view of Mount Cikuray, Papandayan crater, when observing you will see the night view of the city of Garut which is decorated with thousands of stars in the sky and if you are lucky you can also enjoy the sunrise every morning. So many valuable lessons and experiences that every moment that happens will always be an unforgettable moment. Thank you Little Fireface Project and Cipaganti village for the comfort and warmth that you provided. I love it!
