Minute by minute, hour by hour, even year by year passed by unnoticed. That’s exactly how I felt during my time working as a Research Assistant at The Little Fireface Project, from late 2023 until mid-2025. My name is Angga and I’d love to share my incredible experience with this wonderful organisation.
Primate conservation has always held a special place in my heart – perhaps that’s one of the reasons I applied for this position. One of the best things about this journey was being able to pursue my passion while working and learning from experts in this field.
This place taught me so much: from how to conduct accurate behavioural data collection, understand the ecological life of the Javan slow loris, use some equipments to track the loris location, handle the captured lorises and measure their body dimensions, conduct nocturnal mammals surveys properly, assist with social and outreach events, and even gather social data from the community.
Even though my main job required me to go into the field almost every night, but it wasn’t as scary or difficult as I had imagined. Sure, there were some challenging moments, especially during my early days doing night observation, but time eventually passed -and before you know it, you’ll find yourself immersed in the moment!
Another thing I always brag about is the chance to experience a slow-living lifestyle -far away from the city crowds and unnecessary pollutions! The villagers were kind, and so were my suportive teammates. It felt more like living with friends than just working a job-if you know what I mean. I’m not sugarcoating it -this rollercoaster journey was truly fun and unforgettable! Working here was like living a dream come true.
Curious? Go try yourself!
