Biology, behaviour and bamboo

Holla! I am Yusi, currently in my third year studying Biology at Bandung Institute of Technology. I have passion for animal behavior since I learnt about it on my course. Animal behavior is very interesting for me to know how animals do their daily activities and why they do it. This brought me to the Little Fireface Project as a volunteer to observe Javan slow lorises.

Yusi out and about

This is the first time in my life seeing slow lorises – they are cute but remember, they are not pet! We need to protect them. During the night, we observe the behavior of the slow loris by walking around the field, even when it gets very cold at night. Sometimes we can take a motorbike for long distances. So exciting! The terrain is a bit steep. I thought the lorises was very slow moving like a sloth. Umm beyond my expectation they can move very quickly, even when we are taking notes for a few seconds.

During the observation, we can clearly see the stars and the moon. We can see a beautiful sunrise too on the way home in the morning. Then, during the day we check the sleepsite of each slow loris, usually they sleep on bamboo.

HEY! You need to try it. Come and bring some warm clothes. This is one of the best experiences of my life!
