Agriculture is among the pivotal sectors that makes considerable contributions to the economic prosperity of a country. With the increasing demand for cash crops, due to a high growth of the global population and lack of comprehension of potential crops instead of staple crops, proper cultivation plays a big role in solving the problem.

Giving Toona sureni trees to local farmers

In recent times, I began my journey in LFP, and I am involved in the agriculture program. I designed a protocol for agriculture program about the cultivation of Toona sureni (suren) which can help for making the schedule of plantation and seedling. The first step for making seed treatment for these plants by giving organic fertilizer and growing them at a green house until these are ready to be transplanted in the field.

Planting the suren trees

The biggest problem during planting the crops was in a rainy season in which overly wet weather can cause harmful of the fungus growth while the seedling process. In this week, I and my friends (Bang Adin, Rahmat, Dendi, and Yiyi) cultivated the seeds into the observation areas and were watering the seeds every day. Planting the Toona Sureni aims to rejuvenate the forest by providing foods and habitats for slow lorises and reduce the occurrence of forest erosions.

Moreover, Toona sureni has good beneficial for soil fertility, which can improve the structure and porosity of the soil and can further increase the rate of water infiltration by holding its capacity to minimize the degradation of the soils. so that the environment intended which is for agricultural area will be able to be maintained in a long period of time. Perhaps, in the future we would plant more tree which is a native crop such as Toona sureni, Coffee,  Calliandra calothyrsus, Leucaena leucocephala, etc.
