Cikananga Wildlife Center (Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Cikananga-PPSC)

The newly established the Cikananga Wildlife Center (Cikananga Foundation) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization for the conservation of Indonesian Wildlife. The Little Fireface Project is working with them for behavioural research, for help with education and awareness training and to organise law enforcement training workshops. Cikananga Willdife Centre’s beautiful sun bears were featured in the Jungle Gremlins of Java.

The mission

PPS Cikananga is to support the government of Indonesia to save and conserve wildlife protected in a professional manner, and of benefit to the local communities. The main activity of our center is to provide for facilities and man power to facilitate confiscated wild animals and re-introduction to their habitats. Other activities include: rescuing of wild animals, maintaining of wild animals which are evidence for law suits, rehabilitation of wildlife, conservation awareness and education programs, conservation and wildlife trainings, and awareness & education programs. Cikananga opposes any collaboration with institutions which exploit animals.

The vision

Cikananga aims to become an internationally accredited wild animal rescue center, capable to provide care and rehabilitation for rescued Indonesian wildlife and to enable repatriation of Indonesian animals from abroad.

              

The objectives

The program

Animal Rescue Program is one of the units of the Cikananga Foundation .  Aims to assist the government in an effort to rescue and conserve Indonesian wildlife and the habitat and also to encourage and enhance the efforts of law enforcement towards animal rescue. In the activities Cikananga Animal Rescue accommodates, trains and cares for the confiscated animal from the community who then released to the wild.

Facilities

The facilities which are built to keep and manage the animals include: cages, pens, aviaries, free-runs, ponds, etc. In 2001 Cikananga Wildlife Center built 114 animal facilities, growing to 165 facilities in 2002, to 450 in 2003, and to around 550 at present. Of these facilities, only 25% was constructed by hired contractors, the remaining 75% was supervised by Cikananga Wildlife Center and constructed by the local community.

Activities

WILDLIFE LEARNING CENTER

Cikananga Wildlife Learning Center conducts the educational program and the study about Indonesian wildlife conservation. Many Elementary schools, High Schools and Universities and also government officer and NGOs visit the center regularly for basic conservation education, such as providing training to identify the type of protected animals, the handling (handling) and training in wildlife CITES regulations.

The aims:

  1. Increase awareness and understanding of the importance of wildlife preservation.
  2. Improve knowledge and adding the environment values to the community.
  3. Increase knowledge about the concept of conservation.
  4. Change in thought patterns on the importance of preserving wildlife and can be transmitted to the public.

    • Hello! The best place to visit in Bali is Bali Animal Welfare Association – they get many animals in, cats, dogs as well as countless exotics!
